Description
The ilkals are traditionally woven in the Northern parts of Karnataka, primarily Bagalkot. They are easily identified with their border design and the distinct pallu which has 2-3 or more silver white stripes with tapering edges on a red background. The border and pallu are joined separately with the body using a technique called tope teni. This white mercerised cotton ilkal is a designer take on the traditional one. This has a yellow and green pallu instead of the traditional red and white.
