Description
Ilkal (and not irkal) comes from the small town of Ilkal in Bagalkot district of Karnataka. Ilkal saree has been accorded Geographical Indication (GI) tag.The uniqueness of this saree is joining of the body warp with pallu warp with a series of loops locally called as TOPE TENI technique. This is visible only in the handwoven versions as in these sarees. These sarees have cotton-viscose body and silk pallu. The border is the traditional chikki border. This black base ilkal has tiny orange and blue checks with a red tope teni pallu.
